ASAP 340B supports true safety-net providers and the communities they serve

WASHINGTON, DC, March 24, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — The Community Access National Network, otherwise known as CANN, today announced it has joined the Alliance to Save America’s 340B Program (ASAP 340B). CANN is deeply committed to the success of the 340B Drug Pricing Program, which dates to 1992 when Congress struck a deal with pharmaceutical manufacturers to expand access to care and medication for more patients.

ASAP 340B is a partnership of community health centers, patient, provider, and consumer advocates, and leaders from the biopharmaceutical industry working to ensure the 340B program supports true safety-net providers and the communities they serve.

Summarized Jen Laws, CANN President & CEO: “We’re excited to join the development of this partnership aimed at serving the most at-need patients, speaking directly to the intent of 340B. CANN has long held 340B reform is necessary and any reform must focus on serving patients first. We look forward to thoughtful discussion and meaningful work with our partners, continuing to educate patients about the vital role 340B plays in ensuring access to care and life-saving medications, and supporting continued efforts to reform 340B to better reflect the original intent of the program.”

CANN’s leadership on 340B dates to 2018, when the organization appointed a national commission to take a thorough and candid review of the program. The commission made specific recommendations to Congress on how and in what ways the program should be strengthened. Many of the recommendations are aligned with the 10-point policy principles released by ASAP 340B.

Dusty Garner, CANN Board Member and member of the ADAP Advocacy Association’s Ryan White Grantee 340B Patient Advisory Committee, echoed: “340B is a critical component of the healthcare safety net. We look forward to working with our partners to drive education, debate, and problem-solving solutions to ensure meaningful and impactful reform, ensuring that the program continues to serve at-need patients in a way that is consistent with the original intent of the program.”
