Houston, Unknown, November 1, 2025 — Houston has announced the launch of its first public drone delivery network for medical supplies, marking a significant advancement in healthcare logistics. Beginning January 2026, Memorial Hermann Health System will deploy autonomous drones to deliver specialty prescriptions and essential medical supplies directly to homes and medical facilities across the city.
The initiative, powered by Zipline’s Platform 2 technology, enables rapid, zero-emission deliveries, completing routes up to seven times faster than traditional methods. Drones will operate between major hospitals, pharmacies, and patient residences, offering precise scheduling and real-time tracking via mobile devices.
Alec King, Memorial Hermann’s executive vice president, stated, “This network brings greater health and value to our communities, ensuring patients receive critical medications quickly and conveniently at no added cost.” The programme is expected to benefit thousands, especially those with limited mobility, while supporting Houston’s broader commitment to innovative, sustainable solutions in healthcare.
Plans are underway to expand the service to include lab sample transport and inter-facility supply runs, further strengthening the city’s medical infrastructure.
