The Cities of Carson, California and Alexandria, Virginia have partnered with international peace organization HWPL to participate in local and global peace initiatives for future generations.
SEOUL, KOREA, August 05, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ — Two cities in the United States have established HWPL Day (standing for Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light) – also known as Declaration of World Peace Day – to bring awareness to the cause of HWPL and the possibility of world peace for generations to come. Peace initiatives completed by HWPL, an international peace organization headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, have inspired cities across the US to participate in the peace work.
The City of Carson, located in Los Angeles, California, declared May 25th of each year as HWPL Day. The request to establish HWPL Day was submitted by the City Manager and placed on the agenda at the request of the Mayor to support the goals and objectives of HWPL, which are to advance peace initiatives in culture, arts, public policy and religion. HWPL hosted an event titled: “Bring Back Our Peace Now” in Carson on May 14, 2014 and presented the call to action of working toward global peace. The event gathered representatives from other Los Angeles non-profits as well as local governments to have discussions about current humanitarian crisis and hear from inspirational peace leaders. The City made a resolution to support the goals and objectives of HWPL and declared May 25th as HWPL Day beginning in July 2014.
Another city which adopted HWPL Day is Alexandria, Virginia, which specifically focused on World Alliance of Religions for Peace (WARP) to celebrate. The holiday was established to be observed on September 18th, which is the anniversary of the day of the WARP peace summit that took place in Seoul, South Korea annually beginning in 2014. The City of Alexandria Proclamation of the celebration states that the city is “…firmly committed to seeking solutions to religious oppression and division for the sake of the future generations and to promote a peaceful world…”. The Proclamation was signed by the Mayor of Alexandria and the holiday began its annual celebration in September 2015.
Cities around the United States are declaring HWPL Day as a way to bring awareness and work toward peace both through local and global initiatives. An important goal for HWPL currently is to pass the DPCW (Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War) through the United Nations to be made into International Law. The DPCW contains 10 articles and 38 clauses to be used in aiding the resolution of existing global conflict, prevent further war from occurring, and ultimately avoid the loss of human life due to war and conflict within and between different countries.
HWPL is also well-known for its peace activity in Mindanao, Philippines. Chairman Man Hee Lee of HWPL gathered Islamic and Catholic leaders, whose people had a 40-year history of conflict and casualty within the region. The Peace Agreement written and implemented by Chairman Man Hee Lee has led to lasting peace since 2014. The Chairman, a veteran who fought in the Korean War, says that his work to establish world peace is not yet finished.
