Texas, Unknown, November 1, 2025 — Austin’s South Congress District will inaugurate Texas’s first statewide electric shuttle service for nighttime commuters beginning 15 November, marking a significant step towards sustainable urban mobility. The pilot programme, operated by CapMetro in partnership with the City of Austin, will provide free electric shuttle rides from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. along South Congress Avenue, connecting major entertainment venues, residential areas, and transit hubs.
The initiative aims to enhance accessibility and safety for late-night workers and visitors, while reducing traffic congestion and emissions in one of Austin’s busiest corridors. CapMetro CEO Sharmila Mukherjee described the project as “a forward-thinking solution that supports both community needs and environmental goals.”
The shuttles, equipped with Wi-Fi and wheelchair access, will run every 15 minutes, with real-time tracking available via a dedicated mobile app. Community leaders expressed optimism that the programme will foster greater connectivity and set a model for other Texas cities seeking innovative transit solutions.
