Houston launches citywide quantum networking pilot, linking medical campuses and energy labs for ultra-secure data sharing

Houston, Unknown, November 1, 2025 — Houston marked a milestone in technological advancement on Saturday, 1 November 2025, with the official launch of its first citywide quantum networking pilot. The initiative, unveiled at the Texas Medical Center, connects leading medical campuses and energy laboratories across the city, enabling ultra-secure data sharing and collaborative research.

The pilot forms part of the Texas Quantum Initiative, established under House Bill 4751, which took effect in September. The project is supported by industry leaders including IonQ and local universities, aiming to position Houston as a national hub for quantum innovation. “This network will transform how critical data is protected and exchanged,” said Dr. Alicia Ramirez, director of the pilot programme.

By harnessing quantum encryption, the network promises unprecedented security for sensitive medical records and energy research data. City officials anticipate the pilot will accelerate breakthroughs in healthcare and energy, while fostering workforce development and attracting new investment to Houston’s technology sector.
