Houston, Unknown, November 1, 2025 — Houston Mayor Maria Gonzalez announced on Saturday a pioneering public-private partnership aimed at launching a citywide digital voting pilot for the 2026 municipal elections. The initiative, revealed at City Hall on 1 November 2025, brings together leading technology firms, civic organisations, and local government to modernise the city’s election infrastructure.
“This partnership marks a significant step towards making voting more accessible, secure, and efficient for all Houstonians,” Mayor Gonzalez stated during the press briefing. The pilot programme will introduce secure digital voting kiosks at select polling locations, enabling voters to cast their ballots electronically while maintaining a verifiable paper trail.
The collaboration includes robust cybersecurity measures and comprehensive public testing, ensuring transparency and trust in the new system. City officials emphasised that the project aligns with state requirements for election integrity and aims to increase voter participation. Community engagement sessions are scheduled throughout 2025 to gather feedback and educate residents on the new technology.
