Houston, Unknown, November 1, 2025 — Houston has announced the launch of its first citywide quantum internet testbed, marking a significant milestone in secure data innovation and digital infrastructure. The initiative, unveiled on Friday, 31 October 2025, brings together leading local universities, including Rice University and the University of Houston, alongside emerging technology startups, to accelerate research and deployment of quantum networking solutions.
City officials highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, with Mayor Linda Martinez stating, “This testbed positions Houston at the forefront of quantum technology, fostering a vibrant ecosystem for secure communications and advanced research.” The quantum internet testbed will enable ultra-secure data transmission, leveraging quantum entanglement to detect and prevent cyber threats in real time.
Startups such as QuantumLink and PhotonSecure are providing cutting-edge hardware and software, while academic teams focus on developing new protocols and training the next generation of quantum engineers. The project is expected to drive innovation across healthcare, energy, and finance, reinforcing Houston’s status as a leader in technological advancement.
