Award-Winning Shorts Will Premiere in Alberta, Canada and Houston, Texas.
HOUSTON, TX, July 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — Imole O. Ladipo is a filmmaker with a rich background. All three of her award-winning short films, ‘Hello Yesterday,’ ‘Wahala Be Like Bicycle – Disaster Date,’ and ‘GPS’ will premiere in Houston, Texas (October 2023) and Calgary, Alberta (August 2023).
Ladipo’s producing career started years ago following her foray into creating video announcements for her church. Today, the proud filmmaker continues to experience success with her work. Using her cinematic storytelling via her short films, her vision is to tackle issues facing the African community.
The films’ colorful stories – each unique – are comedic, compelling, and wistful. Viewers can expect a variety of stories that will keep them tethered to their seats:
Wahala Be Like Bicycle – Disaster Date is a short comedy that follows Deola, who finally gets to go on a date with the man she’s been chatting with since the lockdown. Little does she know that she’s in for a night of her life.
Hello Yesterday is a silent short film about a young professional, who gets so caught up in her ‘life’ that she loses perspective on the things that truly matter.
GPS follows ad executive, Esosa Ose (38) and his beautiful attorney wife, Idia Ose (33), on their journey to start a family and confront the reality of infertility. It also shows a young girl on the other side going through postpartum depression and suicidal thoughts. The ending of this story is quite compelling.
“I would like for people to be enlightened when they watch these films,” says Ladipo. “Themes like infertility, postpartum depression, suicide, child adoption, courage, and overcoming adversity are part of life…and life is about learning how to change – how to focus on being a better person.”
Ladipo hopes the universal themes in each of the films will also resonate with others facing similar situations. She recognized, early on, that her diverse experiences could ignite audiences through her work and spur dialogue.
“I look around and see that many issues are not talked about,” she says. “It’s important for us to acknowledge that. To see change, we first need to talk about things.”
After being presented with an opportunity to develop short videos that listed announcements from the church she attended, Ladipo realized she could harness the power of cinematic storytelling, while pursuing a degree in chemical engineering and petroleum. she excitedly learned the process of video production and writing notable scripts, using her technical knowledge along with her creative arts. With her new-found passion for storytelling and film, Ladipo started her own production company, Lumiere Films where she will continue to tell compelling and inspiring deep stories: stories that matter.
